You do not need specialist kit to enjoy naturism, but a few well-chosen essentials will make your day more comfortable. Always check the event information first: an indoor spa evening has different requirements from a summer garden gathering.
The essentials
Two towels
One towel is for sitting on—a basic part of naturist etiquette—and the other is for drying after a swim or shower. A compact spare takes little room and is often useful.
Water and sun protection
Bring a refillable bottle, broad-spectrum sunscreen and a hat for outdoor events. Skin that is normally covered can burn quickly, so apply protection carefully and seek shade during the strongest sun.
A robe or easy layer
A light robe, wrap or loose clothing is helpful when arriving, when the temperature drops or whenever you simply want to cover up. Clothing should always be an option when comfort, weather or safety calls for it.
Useful extras
- Sandals or flip-flops for poolside and changing areas.
- A small waterproof bag for keys and valuables.
- Any medication you may need, clearly labelled.
- A snack or dish to share if the invitation requests one.
- A book, cards or a simple game for relaxed social time.
- Insect repellent for warm outdoor evenings.
What to leave behind
Avoid bringing a camera unless the organiser has explicitly said photography is allowed. Even then, never photograph anyone without clear permission. It is usually best to keep your phone tucked away rather than making others wonder whether the camera is active.
Leave valuables at home where possible, and avoid anything that could make other guests feel observed or judged. Social naturism works best when everyone can relax.
A five-minute check before leaving
Confirm the address, start time, parking or public transport arrangements, and any identification or booking confirmation required. Check whether food is provided and whether the venue has accessibility information relevant to you.
